THE SEASON BETWEEN BLOOM | PART IV: The Threshold

THE SEASON BETWEEN BLOOM | PART IV: The Threshold

October has a way of sharpening our awareness.

The year is not yet drawing to a close, yet there is a growing sense that time has become more visible. Summer's expansiveness gives way to greater definition. The light changes. The air changes. Even familiar landscapes begin to reveal different dimensions of themselves. What appeared effortless a month ago now feels more deliberate, as though the season itself is inviting a moment of consideration before continuing forward.

Perhaps this is why October often feels less like an ending than a passage.

There are periods in life when progress is obvious. A promotion is earned. A company is launched. A move is made. The markers are visible, both to ourselves and to others. We recognize these moments because they arrive with tangible evidence that something has changed.

Yet some of the most significant transitions occur long before there is anything to show.

They begin quietly, often beneath the surface of daily routines. A perspective evolves. A priority shifts. A long-held assumption no longer feels entirely true. The ambitions that once defined success become less compelling, while new aspirations—still difficult to articulate—begin to occupy more space in our thinking.

Nothing outwardly appears different. And yet everything feels different.

The threshold is where these internal changes gather enough momentum to become impossible to ignore. It is the space between certainty and action, between recognition and arrival. We may not have crossed into a new chapter, but we can no longer fully belong to the one we are leaving behind.

This can be an uncomfortable place to inhabit. Modern culture tends to celebrate conclusions: the achievement, the launch, the completed transformation. Far less attention is given to the quieter period that precedes them. Yet it is often within this interval that the most meaningful work occurs.

A threshold asks for patience. It asks us to tolerate ambiguity while trusting that clarity will emerge in its own time. It requires a willingness to move forward without possessing every answer, and to accept that growth is not always accompanied by immediate validation.

The professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives who navigate these moments successfully rarely do so because they possess greater certainty than everyone else. More often, they have developed a comfort with transition itself. They understand that every meaningful evolution contains a period during which the future becomes visible before it becomes tangible.

October seems to understand this instinctively.

The season does not rush. It does not demand immediate conclusions. Instead, it offers a reminder that change is often a gradual process of alignment. Before the landscape transforms, the light begins to shift. Before a new chapter fully arrives, something within us has already begun preparing for it.

Perhaps that is the purpose of the threshold.

Not to separate one version of ourselves from another, but to give us the opportunity to recognize how much has already changed before we take the next step forward.

The crossing will come soon enough.

For now, there is value in standing at the doorway, aware of where we have been, attentive to where we are headed, and willing to appreciate the quiet significance of the space between.
